Hiring Clayton was a very bad mistake. I would definitely not recommend him or his company. He doesn’t start when he says and you will get numerous no call, no shows. He was contracted to do $10,000 worth of work and didn’t deliver on so many of the tasks he said he would. If you make the mistake of hiring him, don’t give him half down and don’t pay him the balance until he is complete. He will expect half down, half of the balance shortly after he starts. I made that mistake so please read this and learn from my mistake.
The owners of Desert Escapes Landscaping, Clayton and Amanda Rivard, have filed for Chapter 13 Bankruptcy on 5/28/2021. Having stated that fact, please be advised not to use this company for a myriad of reasons, some being; poor quality in workmanship, no control or oversight of the project, poor project management, completely unreliable on timelines and doesn’t show up to work when promised.
Clayton appears to be the nicest man, but basically he is a common thief who will tell you what you want to hear but will take your money without delivering what was promised. Clayton says he will give you a payment plan, but in time he will make excuses about why he cannot make progress on the project and will ask for more of an advance ($$) on the project, which essentially is a stall on the project. We were informed by a former employee that he was using our money to fund other projects. We paid a substantial amount of money to him, he accepted it with promises to complete the project and never showed up to do the work.
We filed a complaint with the Arizona Registrar of Contractor, which escalated to a citation that turned into a court hearing with the Office of Administrative Hearings. At that time disciplinary actions were taken and his ROC license was suspended. A second Office of Administrative Hearing was held and after 2 frustrating years, we won our case. Clayton was given further disciplinary actions and this time his ROC license will not be renewed.
I am writing this so no one else is ever in the same situation as we found ourselves in.
I wish I didn’t have to leave a “star-rating” because this company (and owners) does not deserve any.
Clayton started almost 2 months past scheduled start date. He was scheduled to complete work in 2 weeks and it took almost 3 months. Job is still not 100% complete 5 months later. I had to file a case against him with the Registrar Of Contractors (ROC). Clayton worked onsite maybe a total of 15 hours the entire time. He also No call/No show at least 12 times. We had written contracts which he had to modify numerous times due after giving him half down at the time of signing contract. This was almost 2 months after scheduled start date that he finally started. Many the tasks we talked about that he said he would do, most of them he fell through on. Do not rely on his work because he will forget or decide not to do because he bid the job wrong. He also required half of the balance shortly after starting. Please don’t give him anything until the hob is complete if you decide to make the mistake of using him to renovate your yard.
